Iron and steel industry

Conveyor technology for the iron and steel industry

It is not without reason that the iron and steel industry is referred to as a heavy industry. As a result, the high physical loads to which intralogistics systems are exposed require extremely robust and durable technical solutions. This industry manufactures semi-finished products that are processed by means of the non-cutting forming of metal blanks in red-hot condition in rolling mills and smelting works. The wall thickness of the rollers and bearings used must therefore also be dimensioned for maximum loads. Normally, when a conveyor system is required, we are already commissioned in the planning phase with the precise determination of the requirements and the application-oriented production of suitable heavy load rollers.

Extreme loading requires special conveyor roller design

We at ROS know: When the design of a conveyor system is too light for the rough production environments of today, an entire series of disadvantages may result. These include the risk of long and, above all, frequent downtimes along with increasing maintenance requirements. For this reason, it is not uncommon for customers of third-party manufacturers to turn to our team of experts with the desire to equip their existing conveyor system with specially manufactured rollers that can withstand extreme loads, even in continuous industrial operation. For such customers, we develop roller bodies that are suitable for the desired application and satisfy all the requirements for the transfer of steel products in smelting works. The heavy load rollers we manufacture are completely compatible with existing conveyor systems – only the existing rollers have to be replaced.

Adaptation and dimensioning of bearings and conveyor rollers

For the iron and steel industry, we design conveyor rollers to be more massive and thicker-walled. In addition, we equip them with special bearings for high loads and an option for relubricating the bearings. This reduces the required manual maintenance to a minimum.

Conclusion

ROS Rollentechnik develops and manufactures optimally dimensioned heavy load rollers both for new conveyor systems and for retrofitting existing conveyor systems in the iron and steel industry. These special custom developments make full use of the extensive expertise of our engineers and technicians. From the first discussion onwards, we support our customers continuously with our expert advice, ensuring that little time passes before the desired solution can be delivered and put into operation – with an excellent price/performance ratio. Should rollers require replacement after a long service life, our spare parts service is available at any time, even for custom products.
